"Real education should consist of drawing the goodness and the best out of our own students. What better book can there be than the book of humanity?"

One Student's Perspective:

"“One of my favorite things about the University beyond the classes, clubs, and events on campus, is the great outdoors! Whether at the beach, in the mountains, shopping downtown with friends or alone watching the sunset, there are so many things to do in the area. Although my education is very important to me, it’s also nice to enjoy the community outside of UCSB and get a real taste of Santa Barbara.”"

—Sophomore, Sociology

Myth:

The major I study will be the field of work I will enter in the real world.

Fact:

This is not always the case. Of course, there are many students who get a job after college relating to their major they graduated with, but there are also students who do not. Some students after college get a job in a completely different field from what they studied in their undergraduate years or they attend graduate school, pursuing a higher degree in an area different from what they studied previously. The most important thing is to study something during your undergraduate years that interests you.
