One Student's Perspective:

"I love the fact that you can walk anywhere, anytime, day or night, and there will always be other people around. You're never alone in IV, and I like that."

-Senior, History

Myth:

All there is to do in Isla Vista is party on the weekend.

Fact:

While going to a party is an option for a Saturday night activity it is not the only option by far. The Santa Barbara area is a lively and diverse place with plenty of opportunities for fun that do not involve drinking. There are always lectures or performances put on by UCSB's Arts and Lectures program as well as programs in Isla Vista Theater. Downtown Santa Barbara is also a great place to hang out with live music and delicious restaurants. Sporting events are also another great option for students. Gaucho Locos is UCSB's popular spirit group to get involved with if you want to support your school. Also, the Magic Lantern Film Series in Isla Vista Theater, a well-attended new addition to the Isla Vista community, offers inexpensive and safe entertainment on weekends. There are always many things for students to do in the area throughout the week and weekend and students should feel comfortable seeking them out.
