Parent Involvement

Reflection Pool in Front of the University Center
Congratulations on becoming a Gaucho Parent and welcome to the UC Santa Barbara community! The students of the Class of 2012 make up the best and brightest class ever at UCSB. The unconditional support and guidance they have received from you, as parents, has certainly helped them to achieve their goals thus far, and has prepared them to enter this next stage of their lives. Undoubtedly, you will want to continue to have a role in your student’s life, while you realize your relationship will change as your student becomes more independent. Parents can stay involved in and be aware of the many opportunities on campus, while allowing and encouraging students to be self-sufficient and pursue their own path.

As a parent of a UCSB student, you are automatically a part of Gaucho Parents. The Gaucho Parents Web site offers information about life on campus and issues that may arise during your student’s four years here. Additionally, the Web site answers many of parents’ most common questions about UCSB.

Campus Connection and The Gaucho Parents E-Newsletter are also great resources featuring upcoming events and ways parents can get involved on campus while staying connected to their students. Campus Connection is distributed by mail to all parents twice each year. Parents must elect to receive The Gaucho Parents E-Newsletter, which is distributed monthly via e-mail, by contacting Whitney or visiting the Gaucho Parents Web site. Both newsletters are also available on the Gaucho Parents Web site.

Last, but not least, we are here to be resources for you during your time as a Gaucho Parent. If you have questions or concerns about UCSB, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to getting to know your family, helping you be involved on campus, and making your experience as a Gaucho Parent the best possible!

Sincerely,

Whitney White and Candace Stevenson
