Religious Life

Students have many options for spiritual and religious exploration while at UCSB. On campus, nineteen religious and spiritual student groups, including but not limited to Christian, Muslim, Jewish and Buddhist, are registered with the Office of Student Life. Off-campus, there are over a dozen religiously-affiliated organizations that serve the students, faculty and staff of UCSB through worship services, counseling, social services and religious study. There is an opportunity to learn more through the University Religious Conference (URC). The URC is a non-profit consortium of nine religious organizations committed to campus ministry and the promotion of interfaith understanding in the IV/UCSB community. It is housed in its own building, the University Religious Center, located at 777 Camino Pescadero, where students are always welcome. The URC offers many interfaith programs, volunteer opportunities, retreats, and social activities throughout the year. In addition, it sponsors Interfaith Students, a registered student group with the Office of Student Life. This group is open to persons of all faiths and sponsors interfaith activities on and off campus. For more information, please contact the URC at 968-1555 or email at info@urcsb.sbcoxmail.org. Additional information on the URC and links to constituent organizations is available at the web site, www.urcsb.org. For currently registered student organizations please visit the Office of Student Life web site at www.sa.ucsb.edu/orgs/. You can also talk to the Office of Student Life (893-4569) to create your own student organization.

UCSB Building
The Milton Roisman Jewish Student Center, home of the Hillel student organization, was opened in Spring 2001 in the community of Isla Vista. Designed as a community center, the new Hillel space has opened its doors not only to the Jewish student community, but to anyone seeking a quiet study space, a social gathering location, or spiritual exploration. The Center is made up of many facilities: a student lounge with a fireplace, library, student computer lounge with internet capability, a conference room, social hall, Kosher kitchen, sanctuary, and a beautiful courtyard with a rose garden, trees and a gaga pit. The newly opened Center has reinvigorated the student community and invites everyone to come visit. The Center is located at 781 Embarcadero del Mar in Isla Vista and can be reached at (805) 968-1280.
