Arts & Lectures
Arts & Lectures enriches your student’s education by presenting more than 150 events during the school year. These include performances by world-class professional dance companies, jazz and classical music ensembles, theater artists and world musicians. Approximately 40 touring artists and companies appear on campus in Campbell Hall and at theaters in downtown Santa Barbara. A&L’s community and outreach programs take many of these artists into classrooms, residence halls and other campus venues for lectures/demonstrations and meet-the-artist discussions. Each quarter A&L screens acclaimed international cinema, the best domestic features, rarely seen documentaries and independent films. Occasionally directors introduce and discuss their work with audiences. A&L’s special events, author’s readings and public lectures feature artists and influential figures of international stature. These presentations cover a vast range of subjects and provide an invigorating and inspiring complement to classroom study. Many of these programs are free. Through the work-study program, A&L employs 50 students as ushers, ticket office assistants and assistants in our administrative offices. Volunteer ushers are welcome. UCSB students receive significant discounts on tickets. Additional discounts are available to students who subscribe to five or more A&L performances. For more information, to purchase A&L gift certificates for your student, to request a free brochure describing A&L’s performing arts season or a calendar that includes quarterly films and lectures listings, please call (805) 893-3535 or visit www.artsandlectures.ucsb.edu. EOP Student Support ServicesEOP Counselors assist the student community while focusing on low-income and first-generation students over the course of their undergraduate careers in clarifying and addressing academic, personal, career, and financial concerns. They may also assist students as advocates and mentors while sharing information about other key campus resources and service providers available at UCSB and in the community. Assistance for entering freshmen begins with the Summer Transitional Enrichment Program (STEP), a two-week residential experience where students may enroll in courses such as math, writing, chemistry and a Transitions Seminar. Transportation & Parking ServicesAll members of the UCSB community take pride in our beautiful campus. We strive to reduce demands on the earth’s resources by using our resources efficiently and responsibility. We encourage all UCSB students to take advantage of the many alternative transportation options available on our campus. Conservation minded UCSB students skateboard, ride the train, carpool or ride the bus. All students pay a small fee as part of their registration and are entitled to ride on any bus in the Metropolitan Transit District simply by showing their registration sticker on their ID card to the bus driver. This excellent bus service covers all of the Santa Barbara area. We strongly recommend that students do not bring vehicles to campus as parking is extremely limited. UCSB parking permits are required on all vehicles parked on campus. Students living within two miles of UCSB are not permitted to purchase a parking permit. Students living outside the 2-mile exclusion radius may purchase a commuter “C” permit. A limited number of parking permits are sold to on-campus residents. Residential parking permits and lot assignments are awarded on a “first-come, first-served” basis. All students are entitled to a night and weekend parking permit for free which they may pick up each month at the Parking Services Office or purchase cling-on-window permit for $4.95 for the school year. On behalf of Transportation & Parking Services we welcome your student to UCSB. Please visit us at www.tps.ucsb.edu additional information about Transportation & Parking options for students. Please do not hesitate to contact us at salesoffice@park.ucsb.edu if you need additional information.
